Wrigley

This is Wrigley.
He's a Lab and he's now 9 months old.
In April of 2007 he came in to work
(I work at a 24 hour emergency and specialty clinic)
with injuries to his left rear leg he sustained after being caught underneath a car.

His owners at the time could not afford treatment,
so they were going to euthanize him.

In the few hours he was there, I fell in love with him.
I approached his people and asked them if they would sign him over to me. They said they would, because it meant he would not be sent to doggy heaven.

The next day I asked the surgeon to take a look at him.
She said that it if were her dog, she would amputate;
that amputating would cause Wrigley the least amount of pain,
for the shortest time.

So on April 20, 2007 we both scrubbed into surgery
to amputate his left rear leg.

It is now August and he's doing great.
He has a new best friend, Jake (golden retriever mix), and 4 people who love him. He fits right in and is a great dog.

He runs with other dogs, plays fetch, and acts just like a 4 legged dog.
Whenever he's outside, he always has a stick in his mouth
that he tries to get anyone around him to throw.

He loves to go for walks and play fetch.
Although, if he gets tired on a walk, he lets me know.
He lays down in the middle of the sidewalk and won't get up.
Saving him was the easiest decision I have ever made.
He is truly my miracle puppy.

Maggie

Hi Everyone,
We are Ted & AnnaLouise Waterson
and our 3-legged dog is named Maggie.

Maggie was seized by the police in February of 2006
from a basement of a house where she was being bred over and over again with dogs her owner was fighting.

Maggie had been bitten by one of the dogs
and her infection was so bad when she was rescued
that they had to take her leg (they also spayed her, of course).

Maggie was in the court system for a few months
and then was released to the shelter for adoption.

We adopted her in September of 2006 after seeing her on the news.
Maggie is about 6 years old and she is a Pit/Shar-Pei mix, according to the vet.

Maggie weighs 38 pounds and she has a very sweet disposition
and loves to cuddle and play with her toys.
Here are some pictures of Maggie.
